# 英语“踢水桶”是什么意思？

如果你在新西兰，花园中看到一个水桶，踢了它一脚，然后你转头对你的本地人朋友说，kick the bucket，可能你朋友会先一愣，然后告诉你，用错词了。

为什么，水桶的英文是 bucket，踢一脚就是 kick，没错呀，怎么错了？

因为，kick the bucket 在英语里面有个约定俗成的用法，意思是“死翘翘”。也就是说，kick the bucket = die。这个俚语可以在非正式的场合中使用，被认为是一种委婉的表达方式。

关于这个词怎么来的，也就是它的起源，目前还是搞不清楚，普遍认为说这个成语来自于绞刑或上吊自尽（可以自行脑补一下，垫着水桶，然后一脚踢开…）
