# 新西兰活跃地质断层Active Faults

新西兰地处太平洋板块的边缘，所以新西兰的地质活动非常活跃，北岛的火山、北岛中部和东部以及南岛的地震，都与新西兰的地理地质特征息息相关。断层，英文名称Fault，它是地壳的裂缝，可以长达数百公里；而活跃的地址断层英文名就是Active fault，新西兰境内有不少的活跃地质断层，例如新西兰首都惠灵顿、和南岛最大城市基督城，都处在活跃的地址断层上；而这两个地方的居民，早已把地震当做家常便饭，不足为奇。
